Quality Work
Dickinson Dees provides a full range of legal services to commercial and business clients, but importantly also remains wholly committed to providing the very best legal and financial advice to private clients. In itself, this makes us different. Unlike most comparable firms, as a trainee at Dickinson Dees you have the opportunity to experience corporate and commercial work, as well as cutting edge private client and wealth management work. Of course, there's also the chance to try your hand at litigation, property, construction, employment, pensions, tax and much much more.
If you want an impartial view on the quality of our work, a good starting place is the Legal 500 or Chambers and Partners Student Guide to the Legal Profession. These publications are well researched and objective. They probably offer you the best opportunity to obtain an unbiased overview of this and any other law firm. They make clear the quality of work carried out by Dickinson Dees, the high calibre of our lawyers and clients, highlight our pre-eminent position in our region, our vision for the future and our plans for ongoing success
Quality Training
As you would expect, given our commitment to trainee retention, quality of training is paramount. Your two year training contract begins with an Induction Week to give trainees time to settle in and learn about the firm. After that you spend six months in four different seats. Each trainee has a seat in the Company & Commercial, Litigation and Commercial Property Departments. The fourth seat may be in Private Client, Corporate Insolvency, Employment, Pensions, Tax, Agriculture or in any of the 38 other specialist areas that we have developed over the years.
We place trainees in their first seat based on a questionnaire we ask them to complete a couple of months before joining the firm. Rotation of seats is based on discussions with our trainees as part of a quarterly appraisal process although we cannot promise that all trainees will go through all of their preferred seats. However, we fully understand the importance of focusing on the strengths and preferences of our trainees. We are committed to ensuring that both the firm and trainees make the most of the training process.
We have a team of highly trained and enthusiastic trainee supervisors. We offer trainees a tailor-made Professional Skills Course designed in conjunction with and delivered in house by the College of Law which is designed to be as much practical use as possible by developing the right training at the relevant time.
.
The process of training does not, of course, stop on qualification. We are committed to training and have a well designed and focused training programme for all our staff.
