“Dickinson Dees LLP’s pensions team is one of the strongest in the UK with much of the firm’s work coming from outside the region.”

Legal 500 2007

"Sources assert that the three-partner group at Dickinson Dees is the “go-to firm for pensions law in Newcastle ,” making reference to the firm’s "unassailable and pre-eminent” position in the Tyneside marketplace."

Chambers 2008

Who we are

The Pensions Team is one of the largest of its kind in the UK; it is lead by four partners and has 24 other fee earners and professional support lawyers. We act for many of the largest pension funds in the UK. The team offers a huge range of pensions law experience and expertise.

Activities

We can provide a full legal service to both pension scheme trustees and employers and have wide experience dealing with:

• Scheme Mergers
• Corporate Restructuring
• Pension Scheme Restructuring
• Investment and Funding
• Scheme Documentation
• Public Sector Work

We regularly deal with the Pensions Regulator, Pensions Protection Fund, Pensions Ombudsman, DWP and HMRC.

Members of the team are authors and contributors to a number of published work on pensions law and practice including Butterworths “Pensions Law”, Sweet & Maxwell’s “The Law of Pension Funds” and an Oxford University’s Press work “Pensions Act 2004”

Support

The team offers a trustee training course which has been running since 1993. The course is designed to provide an essential grounding in pensions and trusteeship for new and recently appointed trustees. The course has recently been updated to account for changes to pensions law under the Pensions Act 2004 and Finance Act 2004.

We also run a wide range of seminares and training courses for clients on topical issues including managing pension liabilities, dispute avoidance, best practice administration, employer covenant review etc.

What makes us different

• Practical, Commercial Advice – we have a reputation for our practical and client-focussed approach to matters – we understand the technical detail but do not get “bogged-down” in it.
• Depth of Resource – we have one of the largest and most experienced pension law teams in the UK.
• Value for Money – our north east cost-base means that we do not need to charge at the level of other specialist teams – (see our rates on pages 2 and 10).
• Pro-active and Approachable – we take responsibility to let you know (without charge!) what needs doing. Clients have a regular contact who will get to know your business needs.
