Dickinson Dees LLP has beaten major London law firms to be appointed by the London Borough of Bexley to advise on its multi million pound regeneration of Erith town centre.

The mixed-use scheme, supported by English Partnerships and the Department of Communities and Local Government, will provide new residential and retail space fronting on to the River Thames, as well as creating new amenities for the local community and Erith’s 9,811 residents. Key areas for regeneration along the riverside will include bringing forward new leisure, commercial and residential opportunities including a hotel and enhanced riverside gardens.

Dickinson Dees is currently advising the council on the developer selection process and will oversee the contracts for the scheme. The team will also include specialists from the firm’s planning, procurement and environmental practices to advise on the specific requirements of the project to revitalise the riverside which had suffered due to a decline in the surrounding manufacturing industry.

Newcastle-based Dickinson Dees beat several London firms to the appointment and was selected due to the breadth of services and expertise that the team is able to provide at all stages of the scheme. Dickinson Dees has advised on several other major regeneration projects in the capital including a £70m complex mixed-use development project for the London Borough of Croydon.

“The Erith scheme is extremely ambitious and will provide a modern and fresh landscape for the town’s community,” said Ian Ward, partner at Dickinson Dees and Head of Commercial Property. “The mixed-use scheme will continue the major regeneration taking place across London and will attract new residents and businesses to the area.”

“Dickinson Dees’ national reputation in planning, procurement and environmental issues can be seen in successful regeneration schemes across the country, and ensured its appointment for the Erith scheme,” said Sunny Ee, Project Manager, London Borough of Bexley. “The Dickinson Dees team has the expertise and depth of resource necessary to be able to instigate a robust procurement process and to ensure that clear objectives are set and delivered on time and on budget.”
