Expertise
- Paul trained with Slaughter and May where he qualified in 1996. He joined Dickinson Dees in October 2001 from Olswang. Paul became a Partner in the Commercial Disputes Group in May 2006.
Paul has experience of a wide range of contractual and tortious disputes across a range of industry sectors including banking, IT, e-commerce and the media. In recent years he has undertaken a number of large scale disputes in both the transport and chemicals sectors. He also has experience of Companies Act applications and minority shareholder disputes.
Paul has significant experience of alternative dispute resolution processes, particularly mediation and arbitration.
Experience
Transport
• Advising clients in relation to disputes governed by both the Access Dispute Resolution Rules and the Rail Industry Dispute Resolution Rules. Paul’s experience has included representing clients at hearings before the Access Disputes Panel, attending mediations governed by the Access Dispute Resolution Rules and advising in relation to an arbitration conducted under those Rules up to and including a final hearing.
• Acting for ground handling companies in relation to disputes arising under the IATA contractual regime.
Chemicals
• Acting for a large petrochemicals company in relation to a claim regarding the alleged defective supply of raw materials.
• Advising pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals companies regarding their rights and obligations under product development agreements, manufacture and supply agreements, distribution agreements and licence agreements.
General Commercial
Advising in relation to claims for breach of warranty and/or misrepresentation under sale and purchase agreements and advising in relation to breach of contract claims across a range of industries including care homes, leisure, manufacturing and engineering.
IT
Advising clients in relation to their rights and obligations under IT supply contracts including, in particular, advising in relation to the ability to terminate supply contracts and the consequences of termination.
Shareholder Disputes
Advising both companies and individual minority shareholders in relation to unfair prejudice claims under Section 459 of the Companies Act 1985.

Additional Information
Paul lives in Durham with his wife and three children. He is a keen golfer and footballer. He was appointed as a non-executive director of the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust in 2006.
